Ok so you may have read on other blogs that The Designers Republic have updated, well, although there are some glimses (literally!) of new work, it's really a holding page, and from what my sources have told me, the new site won't be up anytime soon, but we can be safe in the knowledge that it will be live by the end of 2009!

Had a nice email from recent graduate Laura Southcott, again another graduate who really shows some great potential and having had placements at some top design outfits such as Accept and Proceed, the Design Conspiracy, Build, The Partners, Start Creative and Saatchi & Saatchi Design, she is now looking for a junior design job in London, so take a look at her portfolio and offer her a job!

Nick Knight
Nick Knight is among the world’s most influential and visionary photographers. As a fashion photographer, he has consistently challenged conventional notions of beauty and is fêted for his groundbreaking creative collaborations with most of today's leading fashion designers as well as award-winning editorial for W, British Vogue, Paris Vogue, Dazed & Confused, Another, Another Man and i-D magazine.

Karl Lagerfeld's Kapsule site has some nice art direction to it, created by Paris based LA Worldwide. (Although bear in mind, their own site is not great at all, take's an age to get through the intro screen!)

Fabien Baron
French born creative director Fabien Baron is somewhat of a legendary figure in the world of fashion editorial and advertising owing to his radical art direction for Italian and French Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Arena Homme+ and Interview just to mention a few. His company Baron and Baron,which he started back in 1990, is very much a powerhouse at the forefront of the fashion industry and it's definitely worth looking through their website to see the true extent of Baron's creativity.

While on the subject of photography, Life Magazine and Google have partnered to make available online, over 10 million photos from the Life Archives which stretch from the 1750s right to the present day.

Prix Pictet 2008
The Prix Pictet award’s worthy mission, is to promote photographic excellence and environmental sustainability. In its inaugural year the theme was water and the winner, announced by Koffi Annan in Paris, was Canadian photographer Benoit Aquin.

Hofstede Design
As I was saying to one very nice chap by the name of Dominic, Australia does have a wealth of talent, and so it is always quite easy to catch some good quality creative, take Hofstede Design for example. Dig around in their portfolio and you will see some nicely crafted work.

Seb Lester
London based typographic designer and illustrator Seb Lester got in contact recently, and I'm certainly glad he did, because I cannot believe that I have not featured him until now.
If like me, you are a type lover, you will definitely want to go through his accomplished portfolio. A graduate at Central St Martins, he has been responsible for some extremely well executed and successful typefaces including Neo Sans and Soho, not to mention some excellent typographic illustration including the top print shown above, which has to be the most elegant fuck I have seen in a long time!
Seb is currently working on a new sans face, so keep your eyes open for that some time in the future.

David Downton
Last week we featured London design group Creative Resource, and their Project for Oxfam, today we are featuring fashion illustrator David Downton, who, as it happens, also worked on the same project, illustrating for their book jacket, swing ticket and in-store signage.
David's latest project was for British Vogue where he and seven other contributors (including Michael Roberts, Celia Birtwell and Christopher Kane) were asked to "design, decorate or adorn" a paper fan. The results, according to the magazine, are the ultimate arm candy!
Tom Kershaw
Ive recently been back in contact with an old colleague of mine, in the form of interactive art director, Tom Kershaw. Tom, formerly at de-construct, is now based in Boston and is currently working for online agency, Molecular.
Robert Loeber
Another design graduate, this time from London by the name of Robert Loeber who is currently working at Urban Outfitters Europe HQ, and already producing some good work.
